Meeting Dave Bell

25.11.22

Dave, the former owner of the boat, previously named “Billy No Mates,” will be used for this expedition. As a former military personnel, he successfully completed a solo crossing of the North Atlantic from the United States to England in 2021. This challenging journey lasted four months, with perilous weather conditions, and Dave executed it with remarkable skill and determination.

To maximize the chances of success for the Human Impulse challenge, we took advantage of Dave’s experience by inviting him to Colombier for an exchange of knowledge and expertise. This allowed us to gain valuable insights and benefit from his expertise, further enhancing our preparations for the expedition.

During these two long days, we had the opportunity to learn valuable tips and tricks from Dave, which not only save time but also contribute to the success of a rowing expedition.
A quote has deeply impacted us, and we wanted to share it.

« You can have the best boat, the best equipment, be the fittest man on the planet, be the best rower with the best support team. But if that ocean decides you are not gonna get across, you are not gonna get across!”

Dave is an incredibly calm individual, and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to his anecdotes, each one more fascinating than the last.

We took the opportunity to ask him what he thought about the Human Impulse project, and his response brought a smile to our faces.

« Looking at what you’re trying to accomplish, I wonder why I stopped after crossing the ocean”
